ARTISTS STATEMENT
KAO, An-Bo currently resides in Danshui. He graduated from the Master's program in Fine Arts at the National Taipei University of the Arts. Growing up amidst mountainous forests, he captures the transient world through the interchange and interweaving of roles with landscapes. He describes the spirituality and essence of Taiwan's mountains through the expressive nature of ink and the purity of ink. In 2019, he exchanged to the Chinese Painting Department and the Graduate School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and participated in the creation residency program in Suzhou, China. He then executed residency projects in Erguna and other places. Regarding Kao Anbo's ink landscape creations, he conducts on-site creations in mountain forests reached through mountaineering. He blends different types of ink and soil, exploring the possibilities of pure ink and natural creation. For him, nature is the ideal studio. In recent years, he has focused on Taiwanese mountain myths and folklore, such as the ancient legends of catastrophic floods and local deities like Taiwan's indigenous spirits. In 2020 and 2022, he participated in projects such as the "A Wild Feast" exhibition in the Tai-ba-lang tribe and Qilai Mountain in Taiwan. Visualizing the inner world of mountains is an ongoing pursuit for Kao Anbo.
