ARTISTS STATEMENT
Wu Chi-Cheng centers his practice around clay, kneading his observations of daily life and imagination into richly colored, tactile ceramic sculptures. He is skilled at storytelling through clay, creating a wide range of ceramic beasts and clay figurines. His works are filled with porous, structured spaces that invite the viewer’s imagination. Some pieces grow from local folklore, while others emerge from spontaneous forms. He has also developed a mobile wood-fired kiln capable of shooting flames, collaborating with interdisciplinary artists to create performances across Taiwan. In recent years, he has initiated residency projects using locally sourced wild clay, allowing the material to absorb the essence of the land and form a deep connection with its surroundings. The result is a series of clay figures imbued with regional flavor and sensibility.
