Lu Ming-te was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1950. He is a leading force in Taiwan’s new media art and in the conceptual development of interdisciplinary artistic practice. Long known and highly regarded in the art world for his distinctive structural paintings, in which images function as symbols, Lu advocates the idea that “everything is media, and media is everything.” This concept breaks through conventional definitions of two-dimensional painting.

After completing his studies in Japan and returning to Taiwan in 1985, Lu came into contact with the diverse forms of contemporary artistic expression and the possibilities of cross-media practice. He subsequently developed the theoretical framework of his “mixed media art theory,” establishing his position in the history of contemporary art in Taiwan.

In recent years, Lu’s practice has shown sustained concern for issues such as ecological evolution, environmental conservation, cloud-based communities, and the dynamic interplay of multiple cultures. His work engages in experiments across species, time, and space, and carries out interdisciplinary dialogues through two-dimensional painting, video installation, three-dimensional sculpture, spatial installation, readymade objects, bodily performance, theatrical forms, and even various modes of collaborative creation with ecologists, geologists, scientists, and others.
